Cracked iPad or MacBook Screen? Don’t Panic.

Cracked iPad or MacBook Screen? Don’t Panic.

We’ve all done it. One slip, one knock off the table, or one drop from the couch, and suddenly your iPad or MacBook screen is a spiderweb of cracks. It’s frustrating, and your first thought might be: “Great… now I have to buy a new one.”

But here’s the thing: a cracked screen doesn’t mean your device is finished. In most cases, your iPad or MacBook can be repaired and restored to look and work like new. It’s often much easier (and cheaper) than people realize.

Glass Replacement vs. Display Replacement

When it comes to screen damage, not all devices are built the same.

  • Older iPads and MacBooks – On these models, the front glass and the display are separate parts. If you crack just the glass but the display underneath still works, we can replace only the glass. This type of repair is usually straightforward and affordable.
  • Newer iPads and MacBooks – A couple years ago, Apple started using laminated displays. That means the glass and the display are fused together. If the glass breaks, you can’t just swap it out. You would need to replace the entire front including the LCD display, even if its only cracked glass and the LCD is still fine. It’s a slightly more annoying and expensive job than a simple glass replacement, but still far less than the cost of buying a whole new iPad or MacBook.

Either way, screen repairs are almost always the smarter choice compared to shelling out for a brand-new device.

Why Big Tech Doesn’t Make It Easy

If you’ve ever wondered why fixing a cracked screen seems trickier on newer devices, you’re not imagining things. Tech companies like Apple design their products to be sleek and compact, but sometimes at the cost of repairability.

More and more I find that batteries are being glued into the cases, screens are laminated, and in some cases even a small repair needs an ultra specific specialized tool. The end result? Many people assume that when something breaks, buying new is the only option.

But here’s the truth: that cracked screen isn’t a “death sentence” for your iPad or MacBook. With the right tools, parts, and experience, your device can absolutely be repaired. And by choosing repair over replacement, you’re saving money and keeping perfectly good tech out of the landfill.

Why Repair Instead of Replace?

  1. Save money – A new iPad or MacBook can cost hundreds or even thousands of euros. A repair costs a fraction of that.
  2. Save time – Repairs are often done in just a day or two, versus transferring data and setting up a brand-new device.
  3. Save the planet – Repairing extends the life of your device and reduces e-waste.
  4. Keep the device you know – You don’t have to adjust to a new model or deal with compatibility headaches.

Don’t Throw It Away Just Yet

If you’ve got a cracked iPad or MacBook screen, don’t rush to replace the whole device. Whether it’s just the front glass or the full display, repairs are usually possible, and they make much more sense than spending big on new tech.

I’ve helped plenty of people breathe new life into their Apple devices with screen replacements, and it’s always satisfying to see someone realize they don’t have to say goodbye to a perfectly good machine just because of a cracked screen.

So if you’re reading this on your cracked iPad or MacBook and wondering what to do next, the answer is simple: repair it, don’t replace it.
